Jeans or jeans means the popular denim pants--
You have a hole in your jeans.
These jeans don't fit right.
Jeans is also used to describe something else made of denim--
Do you have a jeans jacket in my size?
Jean may be singular ( only one )--
Can you make this in blue jean fabric?

Genes or genes ( rhymes with jeans ) means the cells containing the code for copying an organism or part of an organism, or the cells controlling hereditary traits--
Red hair must be in the family genes.
Their children inherited genes for blue eyes from both parents.
Gene is also singular ( only one )--
The child inherits one gene from each parent.

Now that you know that, you can say--
"They wear blue jeans so often that I wonder if it's in their genes."

Note--"gean" ( rhymes with gene or jean ) is a kind of sweet cherry--
A heart cherry is also called a gean.
Two heart cherries might be called two geans.
